PDO Threads – Post Care Instructions
POSTOPERATIVE CARE
- Swelling may be present after the procedure but the use of ice packs for 30 minutes for a few days will help lessen the swelling.
- When washing the treatment area, wash gently for 24 hours.
- Patients should avoid drinking or smoking for 1-2 weeks to prevent infection. Smoking and drinking can slow down the healing process.
- Patients should be mindful when chewing excessively or in an exaggerated manner, wide yawns, and big smiles for 2-3 weeks post treatment. Ex: eat and laugh like a princess, (very delicately)
- Pre-treatment with Botox/Dysport may be recommended in certain areas two weeks prior to thread procedure to relax certain muscles. This allows threads to better settle into areas of strong muscle movement. Muscle relaxation with relaxers helps to prevent facial muscles from tugging on threads in healing tissue.
- Patient should avoid lying down either in a prone or side position within 4 hours after the procedure to decrease the possibility of the movements of threads. It is recommended that the patient sleeps in a supine position for the next 3-5 days to prevent the movement of threads. Elevating the head of the bed while sleeping will also help with swelling.
- Patients should avoid headstands, yoga, strenuous workouts, and exaggerated facial expressions for about 2-3 weeks (avoid dental treatments during this time if possible).
- Patients should avoid deep facial massages for the next couple of months, but laser treatments may be done after one month from the procedure.
