PDGF Injections – Pre-Care Instructions
PDGF Injections Pre-Care:
- Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements (aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo, etc.) for 3-5 days prior unless prescribed by your doctor
- Minimize alcohol, caffeine and cigarettes for at least 24 hours before treatment
- Avoid topical retinoids, glycolic acid and strong exfoliants for 3 days before treatment
- No tanning or excessive sun exposure to the treatment area for at least 1 week before your appointment
- Be well hydrated (drink 64 oz of water daily) starting 72 hours prior to treatment. Eat a snack before arriving for your appointment to prepare for your blood draw.
- Patients who smoke may have less of a response to treatment.
- Avoid dental work and vaccinations for 2 weeks leading up to appointment, if possible
Possible Risks and Side Effects Associated with PDGF Treatment:
COMMON & TEMPORARY:
- Redness, swelling or tenderness at treatment site
- Bruising or pinpoint bleeding
- Mild itching or warmth in the area
- Temporary discoloration
LESS COMMON:
- Skin dryness or flaking during healing
- Localized infection
- Allergic reaction to ingredients
- Prolonged redness, swelling or tenderness
- Development of small nodules or bumps at injection sites
RARE, BUT POSSIBLE:
- Delayed hypersensitivity reaction
- Scar formation or changes in skin pigmentation
- Unintended stimulation of scar tissue in predisposed individuals
