PDGF Injections – Pre-Care Instructions

PDGF Injections Pre-Care:

  • Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements (aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo, etc.) for 3-5 days prior unless prescribed by your doctor 
  • Minimize alcohol, caffeine and cigarettes for at least 24 hours before treatment
  • Avoid topical retinoids, glycolic acid and strong exfoliants for 3 days before treatment
  • No tanning or excessive sun exposure to the treatment area for at least 1 week before your appointment
  • Be well hydrated (drink 64 oz of water daily) starting 72 hours prior to treatment. Eat a snack before arriving for your appointment to prepare for your blood draw.  
  • Patients who smoke may have less of a response to treatment.  
  • Avoid dental work and vaccinations for 2 weeks leading up to appointment, if possible

Possible Risks and Side Effects Associated with PDGF Treatment:

COMMON & TEMPORARY:
  • Redness, swelling or tenderness at treatment site
  • Bruising or pinpoint bleeding
  • Mild itching or warmth in the area
  • Temporary discoloration
LESS COMMON:
  • Skin dryness or flaking during healing
  • Localized infection
  • Allergic reaction to ingredients
  • Prolonged redness, swelling or tenderness
  • Development of small nodules or bumps at injection sites
RARE, BUT POSSIBLE:

  • Delayed hypersensitivity reaction

  • Scar formation or changes in skin pigmentation

  • Unintended stimulation of scar tissue in predisposed individuals
