Juvederm Dermal Filler for Mid-face

Juvederm may be one of the most common of the hyaluronic acid (HA) facial fillers, lasting up to 12 months, treating many facial lines, wrinkles and folds. Juvederm was one of the first HA facial fillers to hit the market, offering more natural, longer lasting results than collagen fillers. Derma Health offers Juvederm both with and without lidocaine, which can make the treatment more comfortable.

Facial Filler Review

Who is/is not a good candidate for Juvederm?

Nearly all adults are great candidates for filler injections. You might not be a good candidate if you have:

  • Severe allergies with a history of anaphylaxis
  • Presence of multiple severe allergies
  • History of allergies to lidocaine or Gram-positive bacterial proteins

Tell your provider if you have a history of cold sores (oral herpes virus) and he/she may want to add preventive treatment to prevent a break out.

Where on the body can Juvederm be used?

The product is versatile and is used in various ways around the lips including:

  • Subtle lip plumping (and a smooth hydrated look)
  • Adding definition to the lip lines
  • Smoothing and softening the vertical lines around the lips (smoker’s lines)

Your provider will assess your needs and goals to recommend the best product and placement for you.

How does Juvederm work?

The filler JUVÉDERM® Volbella XC works by placing a long lasting gel into the lip tissue. It adds a bit of volume, can create definition of the lip line and smooths smoker’s lines. These subtle but remarkable effects help bring back the youthfulness of the area. The JUVÉDERM® Volbella XC product will also pull moisture to the area creating a well hydrated look.

Is Juvederm painful?

Everyone asks this!
Although the lip area may be slightly more spicy than other areas of the face the product includes lidocaine for improved your comfort. Your provider can also topically numb the area prior to treatment to give you an even more comfortable experience. Most report minimal discomfort.

During the treatment, you can expect to a feeling of pressure, typically not pain, as the gel is injected. If at any time during the treatment you feel you need a break or feel lightheaded tell your provider.

How long is the Juvederm appointment?

The treatment itself is brief. Depending upon the areas addressed and the number of syringes of product used, the actual injections may take from 15-30 minutes. If your provider applies a topical numbing cream to the area before treatment that may add 20-45 minutes to the appointment.

How long does Juvederm last?

Although correction is temporary, it is immediate and long lasting (up to 1 year). The filler is naturally broken down and absorbed by the body. Repeat injections are usually needed to maintain optimal correction.

How many of Juvederm treatments do I need?

Only one treatment is required to achieve optimal results but remember, correction is temporary. The product will naturally break down and be absorbed by the body over time.

How do I prepare for my Juvederm appointment?

Prior to your treatment appointment you will need to remove all makeup or the provider can do it for you. The skin is then prepped with an antiseptic topically to prevent the introduction of bacteria during the injections.

What should I do or expect post Juvederm treatment?

Your provider may recommend that you do not exercise strenuously, have extensive sun or heat exposure (like hot tubs or saunas), and drink alcoholic beverages for 24 hours. This can help to prevent temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching of the injection sites. Your provider may advise you to place an ice pack over any swollen areas. Ask when makeup may be used after your treatment.

What are the common risks, side effect or concerns of Juvederm?

Your provider will review your full medical history with you to determine any potential contraindications to the recommended treatment. The key rules outs are:

  • Severe allergies marked by a history of anaphylaxis
  • History or presence of multiple severe allergies
  • History of allergies to lidocaine or Gram-positive bacterial proteins
