Restylane® is another brand of dermal fillers that use a hyaluronic base for facial lines and wrinkles. Restylane was created using a medium sized particle, which makes it a great option for larger, more defined lines, such as the nasolabial folds. Further, during clinical trials, 95% of participants still saw improvement, 18 months after the treatment.
Restylane can be used to on multiple areas of the face, however, Derma Health only uses Restylane in the nasolabial folds area. Derma Health performs thousands of injections each month and have found higher satisfaction for areas such as the lips and mid-face with Allergan's Juvéderm line of fillers.
Restylane is a facial filler, a gel like substance made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body. It is injected into the dermis of the skin, filling in deep lines and areas that have lost volume due to the aging process. Restylane does not have such a high concentration of hyaluronic acid as the Juvéderm line of fillers, making it less pliable, which is a good thing when treating the nasolabial region.
Nearly all adults, 21 years and older are great candidates for filler injections. You might not be a good candidate if you have:
Tell your provider if you have a history of cold sores (oral herpes virus) and he/she may want to add preventive treatment to prevent a break out.
Restylane can be used in multiple areas of the face, but Derma Health has found that Restylane is best used in the nasolabial folds, or the lines that run from the nose to the mouth. For other areas of the face, we have found higher satisfaction rates with the Juvéderm line of fillers. Your provider will assess your needs and goals to recommend the best product and placement for you.
Restylane is a gel-like substance, created from hyaluronic acid. These molecules, which are found naturally in the body hold 1,000x their weight in water, which provides a natural volume to sullen facial areas. Because the filler attracts and retains water, the treated area will look natural and hydrated.
Everyone asks this!
Although the lip area may be slightly more spicy than other areas of the face the product includes lidocaine for improved your comfort. Your provider can also topically numb the area prior to treatment to give you an even more comfortable experience. Most report minimal discomfort.
During the treatment, you can expect to a feeling of pressure, typically not pain, as the gel is injected. If at any time during the treatment you feel you need a break or feel lightheaded tell your provider.
The treatment itself is brief. Depending upon the number of syringes of Restylane used, the actual injections may take from 15-30 minutes. If your provider applies a topical numbing cream to the area before treatment that may add 20-45 minutes to the appointment.
Although correction is temporary, it is immediate and long lasting, typically between 6-9 months. Because Restylane is natural, your body will break down and metabolize the substance over time. Depending on how long this process takes will determine how long your filler will last.
Prior to your treatment appointment you will need to remove all makeup or the provider can do it for you. The skin is then prepped with an antiseptic topically to prevent the introduction of bacteria during the injections.
Your provider may recommend that you do not exercise strenuously, have extensive sun or heat exposure (like hot tubs or saunas), and drink alcoholic beverages for 24 hours. This can help to prevent temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching of the injection sites. Your provider may advise you to place an ice pack over any swollen areas. Ask when makeup may be used after your treatment.
You will likely experience swelling and possible bruising which will dissipate over the next few days. In rare cases, you may feel bumps under the skin where the injection was given. Contact your provider for an evaluation, however, these will dissolve over time as well.
Your provider will review your full medical history with you to determine any potential contraindications to the recommended treatment. The key rules outs are:
Tell your doctor if you have a history of cold sores (oral herpes virus) as you may require treatment to prevent a breakout.
Side effects are rare, and most are mild or moderate in nature, with a short duration of 7 days or less. The most common side effects include temporary injection site redness, pain or tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration.
