We are now offering a much more natural way of using fat from your own body rather than unnatural implants to improve the size and shape of your breasts. We have the surgeon with the skills to transfer fat obtained from your own body (such as tummy, hips and waist) during a liposuction procedure, then place the tissue into your breasts to increase their size up to one and a half cup sizes.
The tissue added to your breasts is indistinguishable from the look and feel of your natural breasts; there is simply no more natural way to enhance your breast size and shape.
We understand you have questions; you want the latest information and facts. In this relatively new procedure we also know you want the best care and expertise available.
Leading our Phoenix, Arizona team is William E. Shuell, M.D. He is one of only four physicians nationwide who is Double Board-Certified as a specialist in both Obstetrics & Gynecology and Cosmetic Plastic Surgery.
This unique combination has given Dr. Shuell a deep understanding of the fatty areas of a woman’s body, of the need to restore proper proportion, symmetry and balance–and to be certain the areas being contoured will result in a pleasing and natural appearance.
He and our staff will do everything possible to make you feel comfortable and safe before, during and after your breast enhancement treatment.
Is Breast Enhancement Right for You?
Known as “Structural Fat Grafting,” this process has been used successfully for several decades, but the science has advanced recently to greatly improve results.
A very high percentage of your transferred fat typically survives and thrives allowing you to keep a full, new appearance for life. Patients who want restoration of lost breast fullness or a moderate size increase are excellent candidates. Many candidates have naturally small breasts or have a mismatch in size. Others may be concerned by contour changes after breast implant surgery or other breast issues.
How Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation Works
You will have a pre-operative exam and consultation with Dr. Shuell, who will explain the process and address all of your concerns. A baseline mammogram may be needed.
On the day of your procedure you can enjoy your usual breakfast, and then come to the clinic. Photos will be taken, some mild medications will be given to you, and a local anesthetic will be used. The fat will be collected in a specially designed sterile container, which will wash and separate the living fat cells from the unwanted fluid and debris, providing your surgeon with healthy fat that will then be transferred into your breasts, all according to the plan that you created with Dr. Shuell.
You will be awake (but lightly sedated with oral medications), and all treatment areas will be numb. Discomfort is minimal and far less than a traditional breast implant surgery. There may be some mild bruising, and you will be asked to take it easy for a few days; there is really no “down time.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Who are the best candidates?
Patients who want reasonable enlargement and restoration of fullness in the breast area. Patients who desire major enlargement are typically encouraged to consider artificial implants of saline or silicone.
What can I expect?
Improved breast contour and larger size (1 to 1 1/2 cup sizes) without using foreign implants. A person who wants larger sizes should consider breast implants. Since the fat is usually taken from “problem areas” such as the hips and thighs, the technique helps many patients attain the attractive and natural-looking overall physiques they desire.
How long does the procedure take?
About one hour.
What is the recovery time?
Usually two to four days, with minimal to no discomfort. It is not uncommon for people to return to work in one to two days.
I have read this procedure is controversial. Is this true?
For years, many authorities were concerned that fat transferred to the breasts could possibly obscure the accurate reading of mammograms. Today, radiologists have the equipment and experience to properly evaluate their patients, despite the presence of new fat added to the breasts.
Is more than one surgery needed?
New techniques prove that 85 to 90 percent of the fat survives, so a second procedure is unneeded. The alternative – breast implants may need to be replaced every 10 years, and problems such as scarring, hardening and rupture are fairly common.
