Kybella

Kybella Fat Melting Injectable

Kybella has been on the market since 2015 and is the only injectable that can actually destroy fat cells, permanently. The injection is most commonly used to treat submental fat under the chin, eliminating the ‘double chin’. The injection contains deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body to break down fat cells. Because these fat cells are completely dissolved, gaining fat again in that area is highly unlikely. Most clients require between 2-4 treatments in one area for the full desired outcome.

What does Kybella treat?

Kybella is a liquid injectable that targets "submental fat" or the more commonly called, "double chin".

What is Kybella?

Kybella is actually created from a naturally occurring substance in the body called, deoxycholic acid, which is a molecule that breaks down fat and absorbs dietary fat. Kybella is a concentrated dose of this fat fighting substance that attacks fat cells until they are destroyed, making weight gain in that specific area much more difficult.

Who is/is not a good candidate for Kybella?

Just about anyone who struggles with stubborn fat under the chin is a good candidate for Kybella.

Where on the body can Kybella be used?

Kybella has received FDA approval for the submental fat region (under the chin), but can in certain cases be used to treat other areas, such as knees, back fat and similar areas.

How does Kybella work?

Kybella is given with a series of injections, in a grid-like pattern. This ensures the liquid is spread evenly and addressing the entirety of the treatment area. Immediately, Kybella goes to work, breaking down the fat cells. Final results of the treatment will not be seen until 4 weeks after the final treatment.

Is Kybella painful?

The actual Kybella injections are not very painful, however, there is a noticeable burning that happens for about five to ten minutes after the injections. Derma Health works hard to keep you comfortable during the entire process, providing numbing cream prior to the injections and offering ice packs immediately after the injection.

How long is the Kybella appointment?

The injection process does not take more than one or two minutes, however, this treatment does take extra time due to the numbing time and the time needed to outline and grid the injection sites. You should allow at least an hour for this appointment.

How long does Kybella last?

One of the best things about Kybella is that the results are permanent! Once fat cells are killed, they cannot grow back. Regaining weight in that area is much difficult, but it is possible if a lot of weight is gained after the treatment as fat cells from other areas expand.

How many Kybella treatments do I need?

Everyone is different, so depending on the goals you are trying to attain, the number of treatments will vary. Many clients need between 2-4 treatments for optimal result, but some may need as many as 6 Kybella treatments.

How do I prepare for my Kybella appointment?

Prior to your treatment appointment you will need to remove all makeup or the provider can do it for you. The skin is then prepped with an antiseptic topically to prevent the introduction of bacteria during the injections.

What should I do or expect post Kybella treatment?

Immediately after the injections, you will feel a burning sensation that will dissipate after a few minutes. You will want to keep applying cooling packs to the area to help with swelling. You will definitely swell and possibly bruise, depending on how you respond. Swelling may last for days, so do not get this treatment before an event! You may also experience numbness, redness and areas of hardening post treatment. This is all normal and part of the fat elimination process!

What are the common risks, side effect or concerns of Kybella?

Your provider will review your full medical history with you to determine any potential contraindications to the recommended treatment. The key rules outs are:

  • Severe allergies marked by a history of anaphylaxis
