Microneedling for Acne Scars

Microneedling

Microneedling is a great option for those wanting laser skin resurfacing but looking for an option with little to no down time. Microneedling removes the top layer of the skin, stimulating collagen and elastin growth, while smoothing the skin, shrinking pores, evening hyperpigmentation, smoothing fine lines,  wrinkles and more. Best results are seen with three to five treatments, spaced about 4 weeks apart. Derma Health offers add-on serums to promote optimal healing and even promote lightening of areas affected by melasma. Microneedling is also a great skin maintenance procedure and can be done once per year after the initial series.

Is microneedling painful?

Topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment areas, making this a virtually pain free service.

Depending the number of areas being treated, the appointment can take between 30 minutes to over an hour, not including numbing time.

How long do the results from microneedling last?

Benefits and results are seen over time as the skin heals and collagen is begins to build. Given proper sun protection and home care exfoliation, results can be seen for months. Touch up treatments are recommended every year.

Preparing for your microneedling appointment

The first step of the appointment is to thoroughly cleanse the skin and then apply the topical numbing cream. You will numb for approximately thirty minutes, prior to treatment. Once the time has expired, the numbing cream is removed and the skin is again thoroughly cleansed. After cleansing, the provider will rub the skin with a liquid hyaluronic acid (HA) and begin the treatment. The HA is simultaneously rubbed into the skin, allowing the needles to glide over the skin and provide concentrated hydration to the area.

Applying PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) gel after a deep microneedling treatment significantly enhances the skin's healing and rejuvenation process. PRF gel, which is derived from the patient's own blood, is packed with growth factors that stimulate skin repair and renewal. Deep microneedling creates tiny punctures in the skin, which initiates the body's natural healing response, while the application of PRF gel adds a powerful boost to this process. This synergistic approach not only speeds up recovery but also amplifies the benefits of the microneedling treatment, resulting in smoother, firmer, and more radiant skin. By combining the natural healing properties of PRF gel with the collagen-stimulating effects of deep microneedling, patients can achieve enhanced results, making it an ideal choice for those seeking an effective way to improve their skin's appearance.
